20 DAY JEWISH HERITAGE ISRAEL TOUR WITH JORDAN AND EGYPT

 

Day 1 Sunday. Arrival

Arrival to Tel Aviv International Airport. A Noah Tours representative will meet you after passport control and accompany you to your transfer to your hotel.


Day 2 Monday. Caesarea - Haifa - Acre - Rosh Hanikra

Drive north to Caesarea, what once was the Roman capital of the region. See the excavations of the Crusaders' City, the aqueduct and amphitheatre which has been restored as a concert venue. Proceed to Haifa for a panoramic view from Mount Carmel and visit “AF AL PI CHEN”, the naval museum of the illegal immigration to Israel at the time of the British mandate. Drive to Acre; walk along the old harbour and local market. Continue to the northernmost point of Israel, Rosh Hanikra. Descend by cable car into the limestone grottoes. Overnight in the Kibbutz Hotel.


Day 3 Tuesday. Safed - Tel Hai - Banias - Golan Heights 

Drive to Safed, center of the Kaballa movement; visit the Joseph Caro and Ha’Ari synagogues, the most important synagogues in the city; stroll around the Artists' quarter. Continue to the Golan Heights; stop at an observation point over the city of Kuneitra and the Syrian territory. Stop at Tel Facher, a former Syrian army camp; visit the Banias springs. Next, a visit to Tel-Hai; see the “Roaring Lion” monument and learn about the heroic battle of Josef Trumpeldor and his comrades in 1920. Overnight in Kibbutz Hotel.


Day 4 Wednesday. Tiberias - Beit Shean - Beit Alpha - Gan Hashlosha -Jerusalem 

Drive to Tiberias to visit Rambam’s grave; proceed to Beit Shean, the biggest archeological park in Israel with beautiful excavations from the Roman and Byzantine periods. Stop at Beit Alpha to see the beautiful mosaic floor of a synagogue from the Byzantine period. Onto Gan Hashlosha, (Sachne) where you will have an opportunity to enjoy the water springs located at the foot of the Gilboa mountain, the famous mountain on which King Saul was killed in the battle against the Philistines. Continue via the Jordan valley to Jerusalem. Overnight in Jerusalem.


Day 5 Thursday. Jerusalem (Old City)

At the start of the morning, drive to the crest of Mt. of Olives where the entire city of Jerusalem unfolds before you. Visit at the Kotel for a prayer. Walk along the Cardo, the ancient Roman road; visit the four Sephardic synagogues restored after the 1967 war in the Jewish quarter. Tour the Western Wall Tunnels; visit Davidson center and walk through the Roman Cardo to the local Arab bazaar. Walk through Jaffa gate to David’s Tower museum and see the ancient remains of the city beginning with the first Temple period. Overnight in Jerusalem.


Day 6 Friday. Jerusalem (New City)

Visit Mea Shearim and learn about the unique lifestyle of the ultra orthodox communities. Drive by the Knesset, Israel’s parliament and see the Menorah with the biblical emblems. Next, visit the Israel Museum and see the Shrine of the book where the Dead Sea scrolls are housed, and the new Holyland model – a miniature replica of Jerusalem as it was during the Second Temple period. Drive to Mount Herzl, the military cemetery and Yad Vashem, the memorial to the Holocaust. Visit ammunition hill, a former Jordanian army stronghold, conquered by the Israeli army in the Six Day War and converted into a national memorial site and museum. Overnight in Jerusalem.


Day 7 Saturday. Qumran - Massada - Dead Sea - Tel Aviv - Eilat

Drive through the Judean Desert to the Dead Sea. Stop at Qumran, the site where the Dead Sea scrolls were found. Continue to Masada, ascend by cable car and tour the ancient fortress; visit the remains of the walls, palaces, synagogue, the bathhouses etc. Descend by cable car. Enjoy floating in the salty water at the Dead Sea. Drive to Tel Aviv for your flight to Eilat.

 

Day 8 Sunday Tel Aviv - Sheikh Hussein Bridge - Jerash - Ajloun -  Amman

Transfer from Tel Aviv to the visit of Jerash, the Pompei of the East. Jerash has been covered by sand for centuries, which is the main reason why it is still so well-preserved. You will enter Jerash through the monumental South Gate and find yourself wandering around in a Roman city. You will walk in the Oval Plaza surrounded by colonnades, visit the Roman theatre and Byzantine churches with mosaic-covered floors. Enjoy a stroll along Jerash's main road, the Cardo, and pass by the Nymphaeum. You may experience the marvellous acoustics of the theatre, from the Jerash music festival which takes place every year. See for yourself how the Romans built the earthquake-proof columns of the colonnaded streets. After the visit, transfer for the visit of Ajloun an Islamic military castle that was used by the Islamic armies of Saladin to protect the region against the crusaders. Finish the day with a short city tour in Amman. Overnight in Amman.

 

Day 9 Monday Amman - Mount Nebo - Madaba - Petra

After breakfast drive to Mount Nebo, where, according to Deuteronomy, Moses was allowed a view of the Promised Land that God was giving to the Israelites. Indeed, the view from the 800 m. summit provides a panorama of the Holy Land and part of the Jordan River Valley. According to Jewish and Christian tradition, Moses was buried on this mountain by God Himself, and his final resting place is unknown. Continue to Madaba, once a Moabite border city, mentioned in the Bible. Visit the  Basilica of Saint George with the famous Mosaic Map of the Holy land with two million pieces of coloured stone, the 6th century map preserved in the floor depicts hills and valleys, villages and towns and  the earliest extant representation of Byzantine Jerusalem, labeled the "Holy City." Drive  south  to Petra via the crusaders castle - Shobak, to Wadi Mussa (Moses), the  village of by  Petra for overnight.

Day 10 Tuesday Petra - Wadi Rum

After early breakfast, leave the hotel and travel south on the road Wadi Musa. Then on horseback to the "Siq" (canyon) and then on foot to Petra known as "Sela Edom" or red rock city, the ancient capital of the Nabateans from 3rd century B.C. to 2nd Century A.D. Visit the most interesting monuments, such as the Treasury, El Khazneh (a tomb of a Nabatean king) then the field of tombs, obelisks, the altar, (Al Madhbah) from this point you can view the whole of the rock city. Overnight in Wadi Run Camp

 

Day 11 Wednesday  Wadi Rum (4x4) - Dead Sea (Amman Beach 2) - Amman

After breakfast enjoy a 4x4 jeep adventure in Wadi Rum. Drive to the Dead Sea for a half day at your disposal dedicated for relaxation and spa time. Drive to Amman for overnight.

 

Day 12 Thursday Amman - Amman Airport - Cairo

After breakfast, transfer to Amman Airport for your flight to Cairo (not included at the rate). Overnight in Cairo

 

Day 13 Friday Cairo - Memphis -Saqqara - Great Pyramid of Giza

We begin our day with a tour of the ancient city of Memphis that lies some 12 miles south of Cairo. The ancient city is now an open air museum testifying to the magnificence of its four thousand years history. Serving Memphis lies the necropolis Saqqara a vast, ancient burial ground, featuring numerous pyramids, including the world famous Step pyramid of Djoser. We then proceed to the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx located on the Giza Plateau. The Great Pyramids of Cheops or Khufu; of Khafre or Chephren; and of Menkaure have always loomed large as emblems of ancient Egypt and were listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Valley Temples surrounding the pyramids provide an insight to dominating religious motives of the era. Return to hotel for overnight.

 

Day 14 Saturday Cairo City Tour

Immediately opposite Luxor, across the River Nile, lie the monuments, temples and tombs of the Theban Necropolis, which includes the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens. The archeological remains of Thebes offer a striking testimony to Egyptian civilization at its height. Among others we shall view the Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, a famous female Pharaoh who during her 22 year long reign became known for her extensive expeditions and fostering of trade relations. From Luxor we sail to Esna. Two barrage bridges straddle the Nile at this point: one built by the British in 1906, and the "Electricity Bridge" built in the 1990s. If time permits we will visit the temple of Esna and the market of Esna. Our boat will negotiate its way through the lock system and sail on the Nile to Edfu for overnight.

 

Day 15 Sunday Cairo

Free day in Cairo (Optional Alexandria Day Tour).

 

Day 16 Monday Transfer to Luxor - Board Cruise - East Bank Tour

After breakfast, flight to Luxor where you will be met with our representative, who will transfer you to your Nile cruiser for check in. Afternoon, you will visit Karnak Temples Complex, the largest Pharaonic temple complex in the world. The Karnak we see today date back to the new kingdom specially the huge amazing columns of the hypostyle hall which are constructed by Ramses II. Our next visit of today will be to Temple of Luxor, another startling temple which was established around the 14th century BC. After the tour, we will return to our Ship for rest and refresh. Afternoon tea will be served on board. Dinner meal will be served on board, then overnight in Luxor.

 

Day 17 Tuesday Luxor West Bank Tour

Breakfast meal will be served on board. After that, you will join our expert tour guide to explore the west bank of Luxor, the city of the dead. Our first visit will be to Valley of the Kings, the richest and most fascinating ancient tombs in Egypt. We will then visit Temple of Deir El Bahari, which was constructed during the reign of the 18th dynasty by Queen Hatshepsut, one of the greatest rulers of Egypt. Finally, we will visit The Colossi of Memnon, these two huge statues are the only remaining items of the great funerary temple of Amenhotep III constructed in 1350 BC. After the tour, we will return to our Ship for rest and refresh. Afternoon tea will be served on board. Dinner meal will be served on board, then overnight in Luxor.

 

Day 18 Wednesday Edfu - Kom Ombo

Energizing breakfast meal will be served on board before our full day tour. Our Nile Cruise ship will land at the location of the Temple of Horus in Edfu, the finest preserved ancient Egyptian temple in the land of the Nile. It was constructed by the Ptolemies in the 3rd century BC for the worship of the god Horus. After your amazing visit, you will get back to the ship, so we can enjoy the lunch on board while sailing to the city of Kom Ombo. Arrange yourself for the second visit of the day, whereas we will meet Temple of Kom Ombo, established in the Ptolemaic period and completed in the Roman era, the temple is dedicated to two gods, the local crocodile, Sobek and the famous eagle god, Haroeris. Evening time is free at leisure to enjoy the Egyptian folklore show on board.

 

Day 19 Thursday Aswan City Tour - Aswan Dam

Breakfast meal will be served on board. After that you will prepare yourself to join your expert tour guide to explore the wonderful city of Aswan. Our first visit of the day will be to The High Dam, constructed in the 1960s by the former Egyptian president, Gamal Abdel Nasser to protect Egypt from the flood of the Nile. We will then ride in a motorboat to reach Agilika Island, where we can visit Temple of Philae, constructed in the 3rd century BC in the Greco Roman era as the center of the worship of the goddess Isis. We will then proceed to visit The Unfinished Obelisk, which was found in the granite quarry in the Southern part of Aswan. After the tour board a sleeper train back to Cairo.

Day 20 Friday Cairo- Departure

Transfer from Train Station to Cairo Airport for departure.

  • Tour starts on Sunday from Tel Aviv with minimum 4 people joining

  • In case of non availability of a Kibbutz Hotel, a hotel in the Galilee will be designated.
  • Dead Sea hotel is upon availiability.
  • Dinner supplement includes 14 dinners (6 in Israel from 2nd day, 3 in Jordan, 1 on the Sleeper train and 4 in Cairo).

  • Dinner supplement for Deluxe hotels is available in Egypt part only and includes 3 dinners.
