St. Peter Galicantu

The Church of Saint Peter in Gallicantu

The Church of Saint Peter in Gallicantu is a Roman Catholic church located on the eastern slope of Mount Zion, just outside the Old (walled) City of Jerusalem. The church takes its name from the Latin word "Gallicantu", meaning cock-crow. It was built in 1931.

According to tradition, this was the place of the palace of high priest Caiaphas, where Jesus was brought to jail after his arrest. Its name is given after the story of Peters triple denial of Christ and the cock crowing twice.
